Since 2016, Shanthi Maargam has been making a significant impact in the lives of youth and adolescents by providing a safe and supportive environment to address their mental health and emotional well-being. Through our Art of Living Youth Center and various programs, we are committed to reducing violence, promoting emotional resilience, and creating healthier futures for Sri Lanka’s young people.

Our Reach and Impact

30 adolescents and youth receive counseling every month.
150 young people reach out to our hotline monthly for support.

Issues we address include:

Depression, bullying, abuse
Gender-based violence
Self-harm, suicide ideation
Issues related to sexuality
Educational stress and parental challenges

Our Approach to Healing

We offer a range of holistic services designed to help youth manage their emotions and navigate difficult situations:

Counseling
Art and drama therapy
Sports, yoga, and meditation
Reflective discussions and activities

Our Key Programs

PATHS Programme

This program helps children develop bonding, self-esteem, behavioral, social, and emotional competencies. We focus on spirituality, cognitive growth, and emotional development, reaching youth in Colombo and the Northern Province. To date, we’ve impacted over 14,000 children with our youth development sessions.

Parivarthan Programme

We partner with local male cricket teams to challenge harmful gender norms and reduce violence against women and girls. Targeting boys aged 11-14, this program has seen profound attitude changes towards gender equality and respect.

Parivarthan Programme (Boys)

7% decrease in the belief that women deserve to be beaten.
14% reduction in thinking that violence defends family honor.
50% reduction in the belief that women are to blame for being raped.

PATHS Programme (Children)

5% increase in discussing different ways to solve problems.
22% increase in understanding how personal relationships are influenced by behavior.
30% increase in trust towards teachers, friends, and family members.
12% reduction in behavior that bothers others, and a 6% reduction in physical aggression.
